The American Warrior Arts Dojo in Highland, Indiana, was established by Richard Hansen (right) in 1982 to take the mystique out of the martial arts and teach practical self defense skills to "ordinary" people. For more than three decades we have provided instruction for men, women and children in Northwest Indiana so they can effectively and appropriately respond to an attack. Sometimes the best response is to just walk away; sometimes it means escaping your attacker's grip. More agressive attacks call for restraining techniques, and when all else fails, we need to know how to end the fight so we can go home safely to our families.

Richard Hansen is a 6th degree Black Belt in Hapkido and a 4th in Budo Taijutsu. He has trained with many of the world's greatest martial artists. Hansen is a Charter Member of the American Hapkido Federation, the National Korean Martial Arts Assn, Bujinkan Shidoshikai and World Sin Moo Hapkido Federation. He has served as the Chief Instructor of the Lake County Indiana Corrections Department, taught an extended program for the Montessori Children's School in Northwest Indiana, and has written several magazine articles on the martial arts.

Whether your concern is a schoolyard bully, a mugger in a parking lot, or a terrorist bent on stealing your freedom, you will learn techniques that have survived and served people just like you for over a thousand years. Our classes are informal and friendly. Please join us for a Free introductory class today.
